Meet Diesel

Hello Tripawds! First of all, we are so grateful for this site and community here. You all have been such a great resource for us and we would’ve been lost without this amazing site!

This is our Diesel, aka Diesel The Adventure Dog.  He’s been on many adventures and climbed many mountains here in the great Pacific Northwest, but he is currently on the his greatest one yet after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma in April 2019.

Diesel had his left front leg amputated on April 26th. As all of you know, this was such a tough decision, but the forums here helped so much. Seeing our boy walk through that door and seeing his smile and wagging tail made it all worth it.

Recovery has been hard for him and there have been many times that we have wondered if we made the right decision. The oncologist postponed his first round of chemo that was scheduled at the 3 week mark due to low energy levels. Thankfully, he really turned the corner around 4 weeks and he is currently pretty much back to his old self at 5 weeks post-amp. It’s so great to see him begging for food, messing up our bed and getting fur all over our couch.

Currently, we are doing our best to make the most of everyday. Trying hard to not think about timelines and survival rates, just living in the now and cherishing every moment together. We are truly inspired by his resilience and ability to adapt and get on with life. When we took him back to the oncologist for a checkup, he cried the entire time, then escaped from the techs and sprinted to the front door. At the beginning, I promised to listen to him and do whatever was in his best interest…  I believe that was his way of saying he does not want to go back.

  2. Diesel, you are GORGEOUS!!!! Looking forward to following your pawgress, you look like you are doing wonderful!

Welcome to you and your family, so glad you found us 💖

  3. Sitting here with hoppy tears in my eyes, I can’t help but look at you and see so much of our Jerry in your spirit. The way you look, your joyful presence, and oh your go-get-em attitude! You would have gotten along so great with him. He was an adventure dog like you, and loved carrying his own gear on all our backpacking trips in the Marbles and Trinities. You lucky dawg!

I’m sorry you had to join us but grateful for your people sharing your story. Because what a story it is! There is no doubt that others will find comfort in knowing that the adventure doesn’t stop even when the leg gets taken away. We can’t wait to follow along with more.

P.S. Tell your peeps that if they want to share more videos, the best way to do it is either to upload to YouTube and share the URL in your blog posts, or become a Tripawds Supporter and they get lots more storage space for videos. Otherwise they might run out of space for photos and we would never want that to happen!

We can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to!

    1. Thanks so much for the kind words! Jerry is a huge inspiration for us and we are so grateful for all you have done for this community! In the beginning, I remember searching for adventure tripawds on google and came across a photo of Jerry and thought to myself, “hey they looks like Diesel!”. You are right, the adventure doesn’t stop when the leg goes away. Might not be the same as before, but I think the adventures now are even better.

      Thanks again!

  4. Hi sweet Diesel! We are just a few days ahead of you with our girl Ella. She also had her fromt left leg amputated. On 4/22. She is doing well but it is hard as you know.

Looks like your boy is wearing the Ruffwear webmaster. Do you find that it rotates or does it stay pretty straight? He looks narrow chested like our girl and we are having issues getting it right.

    1. Hey Janet! Yes, we got the webmaster for Diesel and it does rotate on him even when we strap it pretty tight. Kinda annoying but it doesn’t seem to bother him too much.

Sending much love and positive thoughts to Ella girl! Please give her a belly rub for us 🙂
